About our Virtual Quarry

The iQ Renew Virtual Quarry is a secondary processing facility for glass located in Wyong on the NSW Central Coast. We believe it is the only facility of its type and scale in Australia.

iQ Renew’s Virtual Quarry produces the highest quality recycled glass sand product, which is washed and finely crushed and therefore suitable to use in a wide range of applications. The finished glass aggregates are currently being used by Councils and civil construction contractors, as well as concrete companies, block, paving, tile and benchtop manufacturers, sandblasters and companies supplying drainage solutions, who use the sand as a filtration medium.

Australia consumes about 1.36 million tonnes of glass packaging per year. NSW alone produces about 460,000 tonnes of used glass per year. iQ Renew’s Virtual Quarry in Wyong recently received expanded development approval from the Central Coast Council (June 2019), which subsequently led to the EPA issuing a processing licence to crush and wash 30,000 tonnes of recovered glass at the site annually. iQ Renew’s management team plan to expand the Virtual Quarry capacity to 110,000 tonnes per annum (which would be sufficient to process 50% of all recovered glass in NSW).
